We research and explore the impact, use and success of digital technology as it relates to individuals, organisations and communities whose patterns of use do not fit with conventional use cases. We are especially interested in communities and individuals who find the conventional metaphors and artefacts of the internet society challenging.

The Digital Participation Lab is an umbrella for digital inclusion and digital equity research at Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Information Management.

Current research focuses on digital resilience, digital sustainability, digital inclusion, and the use of technology to improve services.

Topics of interest for our lab includes:
– Privacy
– Equity

– Resilience
– Identity
– Literacy
– Wellbeing (including work/life balance)
– Digitalisation of information institutions
– Digital transformation of services
